I'm not really surprised by this. I know Derrek is a California guy, but the Angels are in a similar position to the Cubs. I could see Lee approving a trade, but only to a contender. _________________ “Chicago Cubs fans are ninety percent scar tissue.” |

How are the Angels in a similar position to the Cubs?
-They're a perennial post season team
-They're over .500
-They're chasing a team that tends to choke 2nd half
-The most underrated manager out there
-Theyve got a great mix of young and veteran talent
-No bad contracts
-Incredible Pitching
-A need for a solid 1B
-Predictable Weather
-Good Players Stadium
-A Ring in 02
As much as I love DLee, if this team is out of it and he's not returning then I'd rather get a good trade. And Anaheim is a great place to play before loyal fans in a quiet "under-the-radar" environment that would fit DLee perfectly. |

Derrek's contract is up after this year and it's unlikely the Angels would resign him long term with Morales returning, so this is the only relevant year. The Angels as of today are 8 games out of the playoffs - they're just as out of it as the Cubs. _________________ “Chicago Cubs fans are ninety percent scar tissue.” |

You clearly don't follow Angels baseball. 8 games out chasing the Texas Rangers in a ridiculous 4 team division where they collect wins in bunches against OAK and SEA. I really like Texas this year but I wouldn't count out the Angels mid season. Scoscia is an amazing coach, they've got pitching and solid players. A struggling DLee would thrive in Anaheim even if it was just for half a year. |

The Angels have never come back from this far in the West this late in the season to win the division. The A's aren't a pushover, only a half game back of the Angels and LA is only 7-6 vs. the A's this year. The Rangers have made some big additions through the trade market and will win this division.
I completely agree that it could be a great environment with Derrek, but the Angels aren't in it this year. _________________ “Chicago Cubs fans are ninety percent scar tissue.” |

Source: Derrek Lee to Braves?
I'm sure baseball wise this trade makes sense to both sides, but it will be interesting to see if DLee is willing to allow the trade to a real contender. So long as one or two of the low level prospects have significant potential it makes sense for the Cubs. _________________ Wha's like us? Damn few and they're a' deid! |
