StLouisToday.com wrote an article on the new faces in Cardinal uniforms. Towards the bottom of the article is this paragraph:
| Quote: | | Coming off a losing season for the first time since 1999, the Cardinals have also seen the departure of surefire draws such as Rolen, Jim Edmonds and David Eckstein this winter. Those are just some of the factors considered when the team scaled back its ticket-sales expectations for 2008, according to Joe Strohm, the club's vice president of ticket sales. |
My first response to the fact that they will not have as many ticket sales is, of course not - they are going to suck this year. Of course that never stopped loyal Cubs' fans, though.
Second, was David Eckstein ever a "surefire draw"? Did he remind kids that even though they are only 5'2" 90lbs they still could make the majors, or did women what to put him in their pockets and take him home to display him on a book shelf? |

| You know, a lot of people used to pay to see things like "The Bearded Lady" or "The Lizard Man." Maybe the "Wee Shortstop" was a big freak show draw in St. Louis. |

i can understand why Cards fans liked him, its all the reasons we love theriot. Nobody busts his tail harder at any given game than that Midget and respect him a great deal for it. _________________ During a "Not For Women" panel discussion, former Cubs pitcher Mike Bielecki asked several players to invent a baseball catch phrase for Viagra. Theriot's ad campaign: "Viagra -- I always play hard." |

Although I doubt any team can beat the Yankees on this one, Busch Stadium has some of the highest prices for tickets and items at the concession stands.
And you're paying to listen to the Budweiser jingle as the Clydesdales clop by on the jumbo screen in center field during every 7th inning stretch. Yeesh!
I can see them scaling back expectations on high priced ticket sales for a team that could be rebuilding for a while. |

The Red Sox certainly do And I'd expect the Cubs to be the highest priced of the lot if they ever became perennial winners. Gotta make up for that limited capacity. _________________ Wha's like us? Damn few and they're a' deid! |
