You had to be kidding yourself if you thought the Cubs were going to walk their way through the central . The central is going to be a race till the end and each of the teams are going to go through their winning streaks and losing streaks. Celticub said it best when he said not to get too high when things are good or too low when things are bad. So everyone relax and enjoy the rest of the season. There is still alot of it left. _________________ "are you saying Jesus Christ can't hit a curve ball?" - Major League |

While I may be a bit worried about the team right now, I am not going to go into panic mode or sit on the fact that they will fall out of first and never make it back up in the division. I don't see that happening, at least.
I remember in the begining of the season I was freaking out after about 2 weeks of play, so worried that this team was going to suck. I even made a post about it here, but I'm too lazy to look it up. Anyways, look, I was worried over nothing, because obviously, the Cubs turned it around. I really think I'm just going to take each game as they come and really, what more can I do? I think the Cubs will turn things around. _________________ "We're going to win here, and that's the end of the story" - Lou Piniella |

| Hello second place. I guess they traded the wrong Sean. I don't think Soriano is good enough to turn this around. |

No one was on here complaining when he single-handedly won the giants game for us last week. Saying that Marshall is worse than Gallagher... come on

I'm new here, so I gotta ask a question. Is this how the forum gets during every losing streak, or is this a statistical anomaly? I guess in hindsight I'm guilty of getting too high on the Cubs during the first half, but I'm far from panicked right now.

I think it could be argued they traded the Sean with the most potential, but maybe not the best. Especially right now. Good left handed starters are hard to come by, and although the curveball seems to be on the way to being fully replaced by the slider right now, Marshall has been a game perfomer so far. If he has to take over for Marquis during this second half, that'll give the Cubs 3 RHP and 2 LHP starting, a pretty good combination. I believe Gallagher will have a more productive career than Marshall personally, but I also believe 2 more things:
1. Marshall has more experience and is likely to be the best performer right now.
2. Beane made the deal specifically for Gallagher. In other words, no Gallagher, no deal.
And, personally, I think I take Harden over Gallagher this year. |

I'd say it's an anomaly. After all, when's the last time the Cubs had a team that was really this good (in any of our lifetimes?), only to start playing this badly?
I've got a buddy out East who's a die-hard Red Sox fan. You should see some of his rants when they struggle for a week or two. |

I think I'd take that every year. I'm ecstatic that he's going to be here next year too
This team is too talented to stay down too long. This time next week we'll be back on track. The marlins seem to be floundering (pun intended) and I think we'll do no worse than split the 4 with the Brewers |

You should see me watching the games during this streak. I work during the afternoons/evenings, so most games are taped and watched post 4 AM. I got 4 kids at home sleeping, and I'm going through a silent screaming tirade, probably completely red in the face from the effort of yelling at the TV without waking up the kids. |

| I'm not too worried, and have confidence that the Cubs can best the Brew-crew down the stretch. We have a better pitching staff, better hitting, and a much better veteran presence. They are having their best streak of the year, and they are still behind a slumping Cubs offense. And I have to mention that they need to start winning WS now, because my friend who is a Cardinals fan only says two things, 10-2, and 100. That is the number of Cards WS vs. the Cubs, and the length of time since 1908. Eternal optimism is the answer... |

The Brewers are having their biggest winning streak since 2005, I believe SC told me this morning. The Cubs are in the worst slump of the season by far. It'll even out, and we'll forget about this bad run before you know it. |

| watching the Cubs at the plate is worse than watching a train crash in slow motion where the train was full of sick puppies who never stood a chance. |

I think when the second place team is on fire.... and the Cubs are slumping has me worrying.
When the offense that is #1 in NL has this many probs is another reason to worry.
Maybe after Mount St. Lou erupted today, the offense will also wake up. |

| It was frustrating looking at the starting lineup today. Theriot was the only one hitting over .300. Take out Lee at .296 and the rest were all hitting right at .275 or slightly below. |

Should we welcome Milwaukee into first place or pretend we don't see them?
They just beat Houston, so, they're tied for 1st with the Cubs. |

Maybe you're pointing out exactly what's happening. Things are evening out. As much as some may believe this is the best Cubs team ever seen, we can't forget that most of these guys are the same free-swinging, streaky hitters that streaked itself into the playoffs last year and then streaked themselves right back home.
Anyway, the toughest part of these losses is the starting pitching. We have seen some AMAZING starting pitching and the bats just aren't supporting that. So how many more quality starts do guys like Harden, Lilly, Marquis or Demp do they really have left for the season? |
